Cycling Through Clothes

2016-07-25 Household Organizing

The summer heat is officially here. How about an indoor organizing project like your closet. The Pareto Principle, also known as the 80/20 rule, implies that 80% of the time we wear only 20% of our clothes. Take a look at your closet and see if this is true for you. I am willing to bet that most of what you have in your closet is seldom used.

Now may be a good time to review what you have and cycle through your wardrobe. Start by sorting and purging. Look at all your pants, then shorts, then tops, etc. Eliminate the soiled, tired and worn out looking items and see what is left. Donate any pieces of clothes that don’t fit you or your style anymore. Review how often you actually wore any winter piece and determine if it is still what you love and want to keep. If you struggle to discard clothes that are still very good and in style, consider sending them to a consignment store. It will give someone else added years of wear.

Once you have completed the sorting and purging phase, you are ready to organize the closet. Keep like items together by color. This will make it easier to see what you have and to match your outfits. When it comes time to search for a certain piece, you will have easy visual access. It will save you time in putting your outfit together and save you money in eliminating the duplicates.
